Join us at a free event this spring
Climate change matters to Oxfam, because it perpetuates and deepens the very poverty and discrimination that we work to overcome. It is clear that our Pacific whānau, who have done the least to cause climate change, are bearing the worst of its effects. This spring, we are hosting indigenous women leaders from Aotearoa, Solomon Islands, and Samoa to share their perspectives and help us all to learn more about how we can support these communities to thrive.
Our international guest speaker is Tanya Afu, coordinator of the Solomon Islands Climate Action Network. Tanya will be joined by climate and oceans protector Bianca Ranson (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu ki Whaingaroa) and by Mary Moeono-Kolio (Samoa), member of the Council of Elders of Pacific Climate Warriors and Pacific Champion for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
This will be a lively evening of inspiring kōrero from Indigenous women who are leading their communities to seek justice in a time of climate crisis. Oxfam Aotearoa is proud to partner with the Solomon Islands Climate Action Network and support their work engaging women and whole communities across Solomon Islands to support adaptation and resilience to climate challenges. We know that these same challenges are faced by communities across Aotearoa and the Pacific, so we’re very glad to bring together these speakers to share the call for climate justice.
