Oxfam aid continues to reach families affected by Haiyan

Oxfam continues to reach more people affected by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines as it delivered emergency relief in the northern tip of Cebu. Hygiene and water purification kits were given to over 800 families on November 15 and 16 in the coastal region of Daanbantayan which was badly affected by the typhoon.

Oxfam is responding to Typhoon Haiyan and has 4 teams in the affected areas (Northern Cebu, Leyte and Samar) providing water and hygiene kits. Despite the massive challenges, roads are finally opening up, so we will be able to start getting aid to the worst affected areas on Friday (today). Our priority will be to get to the most vulnerable people affected with safe water and basic essentials like soap and blankets.

Meet the Mondejar sisters: Nelia, Sarah Jane and Rizza Mae. They are aged 10, 8 and 5 respectively and they have been tasked with fetching water 10 times a day from a well and taking it to the high school where they are currently living in one of the classrooms. The water is dirty and contaminated with salt, but they have no choice but to drink it and now fuel is running low they can’t even boil the water before drinking it.
