Today Oxfam’s thoughts are with all of the people who have been affected by the earthquake in Wellington and the South Island last night – those who have been evacuated, those whose homes were destroyed and those who lost friends or family members.
Oxfam is on hand to assist the government in its response to the devastation in coordination with the Non-government Organisation Disaster Relief Forum (NDRF). Whilst New Zealanders are relatively well resourced to cope with this crisis, Oxfam is monitoring the situation closely as more information becomes available. We are maintaining regular contact with the relevant authorities and are ready to respond if necessary.
