In Papua New Guinea only a third of remote villages have a safe water supply. Dirty water leads to frequent illness and high mortality. Lack of sanitation facilities at schools also prevents children, especially girls, from attending school. Women and girls are affected the most by unsafe water and poor sanitation. They’re the ones who have to spend long hours collecting water, or who can’t go to school when they have their period.
